Male and female bettas

Could a male and female Betta live peacefully as the only fish in a 10 gallon planted tank?
 
But be sure the divider is not transparent, if you go that route, because if they can see each other they'll still be stressed.
 
If you can make it such that they can't get at each other then yea, sure. That being said, betta are nosy enough to find ways past barriers that aren't completely secure.
 
Okay. Thank you, everyone! I will always choose to play it safe. I will not put a female Betta with him. Is there anything that I can safely put with my male Betta? I know that he will be very territorial. I was planning on completely redoing the tank at that time. New substrate, rescaping, new decor, new everything.
