Currently I have a 55 gallon, established tank with 2 HOB filters (cam link in my sig).
The local fish store has marineland canister filters on sale @ 50% off for today only.
Are canister filters worth the cost? They seem like they are easier to maintain than the HOB and they certainly give me more options for additional filter media(in winter the tap water chemistry changes here and I have to use something to remove high phosphates from the tap).
The c220 - up to 55 gal is $75 and the c360 - up to 100 gal is $99. I would prefer the larger.
If i go with this - instead of running the canister filter and 2 HOB for a few weeks I was thinking of pulling the HOB media and putting it in the canister to establish the bacteria. Good plan?
Any opinions appreciated as $100 is nothing I am in a rush to spend!
