I was thinking of using a mirror as the background for my 29 gallon, to give it the optical illusion of more space, fish, plants. It's a community schooling tank, hopefully planted eventually. What do you think? Would it be a good idea? Has anyone here ever tried this?

It depends on the fish, some may try to attack their reflection.

If it's just peaceful schooling fish then go for it.

Personally I'd go with a normal black or blue background. The mirror could make things look too busy and actually take away from what is on display in your tank. A simple black background will help focus your perspective on the actual scape. But it doesn't hurt to try too!

Did you try the mirror background? If so, would love to see a picture. Or a picture of what ever background you have ended up using.
