It should be but its not a must. You will have to do more frequent water changes so the ammonia stays <.25

My ammonia in my main tank right now is 0.25. not good. Going to change water soon.

How long can they survive without food? The fry.

They can last a week + without food because they feed on their eggsack the first week of their life. Then they will eat crushed up flakes, "first bites", and baby brine shrimp.

Yes they should. They will have color when they are ready for real food.
