I have a pregnant swordtail and no experience breeding fish whatsoever. What do I need to know? She has been pregnant for about 2 weeks now as far as I can tell. Thanks!

Congrats! you will now have babies :smilecolros:
Ok, the first thing to do is either bur a breeder net, of separate the female. this will maximize the young that will survive. the swords tend to eat their young. next, you will need to keep an eye on your fish. she will get a dark spot on the back of her stomach. on your sword, it should get the size of a pea. when you see this you will want to put the female in the breeder net, or a separate tank. also if you notice small babies in the tank, you should do the same. the mom will not eat the babies while she is giving birth. after birth you can immediately start feeding the babies finely crushed flakefood. after 2 months the babies should be large enough to put back with the other fish. Good Luck and have fun,

Corey
