I live in southern california and it can get very warm in my apartment. I will be leaving for a week and really don't want to leave my AC on. I have a 20 gallon tropical setup. A chiller seems to be a bit overkill. Any other suggestions?

What kind of fish do you have? Tropical fish can take temps up to the mid - upper 80's.

You could have a fan blow across the surface to ... this will promote evaporation that will cool the water ... but it also .. promotes evaporation ... so don't be surprised if your water level's lower when you return.

1 blue ram
1 dwarf gourami
5 neon tetras
2 guppys
5 ghost shrimp

I try to keep the tank at 78-79. But it can get hot in my place. I left for 2 days a couple weeks back it was 87 in my apartment and 84 in my tank.

My tanks are always at 84 degrees and upwards (my thermo doesn't go any higher) but the fish are fine. I have gouramis tetras and rams and they're all doing well.
