new to sponge filters need expert help

I have a 6ft wading hard plastic pool, where i keep two of my turtles. i want to take out the filters i have now and change them to sponge filters. i have the water to about 9 inches the lowest. i want to get two of the hydro V 5 sponge filters. Do sponge filters need to be deep under water or can it be used near the surface? Im unsure what filter would work for me i would want to get two of those filters or any sponge filter that would work for me.



in the pond are two turtles, guppies, and guppy fry, want a filter so i don't keep sucking up my fry in the whisper 40 filter

Hi, welcome to the forum

As far as I know sponge filters can be used at any depth. I'm thinking more of the old air-powered ones though.
