Well, not really from Hawaii but recently just moved here. I am about to start a SW tank and have quite a few questions(not all at once though).
First off, I have a 55 gallon tank that I would very much like to turn into a SW tank. Obviously I have great access to ocean water and live sand but should I use it?
The filter I'm thinking of using is this: http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=EH2126830
Is this overkill for my size of aquarium and should I even be using a canister filter? I like the fact that it regulates water temp and would mean 1 less thing to buy.
No live rock or reef set ups as it appears that it is illegal here in Hawaii to sell or purchase it.
What type of lighting should I be using? I imagine I will be getting some sand sifters in addition to the fish. But with no coral, is the lighting that important?
Thanks for help.
