Aquarium Advice Apprentice
Yeaterday was cause for celebration because my cycle is finally over (woo-hoo!). I had a rough start... ammonia killed 3 out of 4 fish. I had one courageous Molly that stuck it out and lived through the whole nine week process of constant water changes.
Now, my water is testing normal: 0 ppm ammonia, 0 ppm nitrite, 20 ppm nitrate, pH 7.5 . I nearly had a party for my tank
Of course, starting yesterday, my molly isn't acting himself. He's lethargic, sitting at the bottom of the tank (which he never does), decreased appetite. There are no outward signs of disease.
I am SUPER frustrated that my water is now perfect and he decides to get sick. I'm so attached to his cute little personality and his perseverance.
I'm at a loss. Is it possible that he was so accustomed to the toxins that he's now having trouble adjusting? Does that even make sense?!
For a minute I was considering trying a "quick cure" antibiotic treatment as a last ditch effort if he didn't improve, but do I really want to risk killing the good bacteria that I just spent nine long weeks growing??
This is more of just a place to vent, but if anyone has experienced anything like this before, I'd like to know what happened.
Thanks!
