I have been assembling the equipment to upgrade my 50 gal to plants.
I have most of it, so I just couldn't wait for the rest of the plants.

60/40 flourite and fine gravel
monitored co2
80 w light, soon to be 150w
eheim and 170 biowheel
300 watt heater

misc. aponogeton from bulbs

Biowheels and CO2 injection don't mix. The agitation caused by the biowheel increases the rate at which CO2 outgases from the water.

If you are using pressurized CO2 you might be able to get away with biowheels, but I don't think they are at all necessary. You can test your CO2 concentrations by measuring KH and pH and adjust accordingly.

Your lighting is moderate so you might not "need" CO2 but it won't hurt. The pleco, if it is a common pleco, might not be the best resident for a 50 gallon planted tank.
