Plant and cichlid

Hi again;
What kind of plant will survive in a tank with some African and American cichlids (Severums, Albino cichlid, yellow lab) I have a small chunk of Java Fern in there right now and hopefully no one will dig it up for food and just look some more!

No stem plants. They'll instantly tug them out of the ground. I've had them leave amazon swords alone as well as java ferns though.. Plants that will quickly root to the substrate.

But I have river pebble gravel in those tanks, which is a bit harder for them to dig around in.
