I was just wondering if anyone could help me in naming a few of the plants I have in my aquarium. I know a couple names like the amazon swords, jungle val, I think one is called American or Canadian water weed. I think one is hygrophilia polysperma. I will add a couple pictures of the ones I'm not sure of. Any help with names would be great. Thanks in advance.

OK awesome. Thanks. I'll see if I can get 2 better pics. The 3rd pic is like a stalky bamboo looking plant with a few leaves on the tips. There was leaves lower down before too.

I was thinking that one may be some type of ludwigia. Does java fern get that tall? Some of the leaves are getting close to 24" long. The tank is 19" tall and the will come a few inches up out of the water.

Adam, in your original post with pics,

#1 is a crypt
#2 is LaceLeaf Water Sprite not Wisteria.
#3 looks like either Giant or Blue Hygrophilia can't tell without any leaves and needs to be spread out more(the bamboo looking one) and to its right is either Rotala or Bacopa.
#4 I have no experience with but would guess it's not Java Fern.

Oh OK great thanks. The little water sprite was just in the bag with a few guppies I bought so I thought I'd try planting it. Its grown a bit since I did. Wish it would go more tho. I will try spreading out the bamboo looking one and see how that does. It did have leaves almost all the way down. Now its just got them.on the tips.

Sorry i mislead you with the wisteria. Brain fart. You could try cutting it in half and replanting the stems. This should induce new growth

It looks like you've buried the rhizome on the first pic of the crypts - this part should be above the substrate. The rhizome is the large mass as the bottom of the leaf stem that has roots protruding from it.

Crypts dont have a rhizome. Anubias and java fern do tho. All my tanks are dirted with a cap of pfs. I just stick my crypts in till they hit the dirt. They are growing out of control

The rhizome is a key facet of cryptocoryne plants. Ferns generally aren't planted, while the roots of crypts definitely benefit from being injected into a nutrient rich substrate. I have a crypt undulata that has spread, and several smaller crypts that failed to propagate until I pulled the rhizome out of the soil. They melted and turned brown - now theyre, green, healthy, and sprouting.
