This morning I noticed what seemed to be a small hole about half way in Captain Jack's tail fin. Today when I got home from work, the tail has split from the hole to the end of his tail. It hasn't moved towards his body at all, and none of his other fins seem to be affected. His colour is still good; in fact, in the few weeks since I brought him home from Petsmart, his colouring has improved dramatically. There are no black or white spots on the "rip" or anywhere else on him.
Tank deets:
5.5 gal Top Fin
Top Fin 10 filter with soda bottle baffle
Small air stone
Heater (80 degrees)
Silk plants
I just checked the water parameters:
7.8 ph (stable)
0 Ammon
0 NO2
5 NO3
Essentially the same as my last check. I did a 30% pwc yesterday.
He's still very active, eating fine, showing off when I turn the light on or take pictures. He's always liked playing in the bubbles from the air stone, and he's still doing that too. He also seems to love weaving around the heater. I have attached pics - is this fin rot? Stress? Just a tear?
Sorry for the long post, but I want to be a responsible fish owner!

Still no sings of black or white spots around the rip, but the rip itself seems to be getting a tiny bit bigger - or it could be my imagination. All water parameters the same.
