I keep reading about powerheads and flow inside the tank. i was wondering if you guys thought it would be neccessary to put some kind of powerhead in my 20 gal. Right now I have a marineland biowheel filter along with a cpr hang on bak pak skimmer.
Most likely you'll want at least a small powerhead to counteract the flow from the biowheel. I have a lone biowheel in my QT and I end up with very circular flow with a couple dead areas. I like it for the QT as it makes it easy to suck up any gunk as it always ends up in one or two places. But for a main tank, you'll probably want a more random/chaotic flow pattern.
Is this for a FO, FOWLR, reef tank? Regardless of the type of setup you have flow will help keep carbon dioxide from building up and keep your tank well oxygenated but if a reef tank then certain corals require higher flow then others.
