I am doing a thourough cleaning and changing the decor of one of my tanks and am wondering if a "gravel mountain" is a good idea or not.

I'd be concerned of a fluke avalanche & someone getting buried but I may just be overly cautious. :-o

Hello Fish...

A mountain of gravel wouldn't last long. Routine cleaning would cause it to fall. You can have a mountain in the tank if you like, but I'd use a combination of driftwood and larger rocks. This way, the mountain would stay in place a lot better.

Just an idea.

I did it earlier today and i will post some pics tomorrow. its not as drastic as a mountain but it actually looks really cool.

They make substrate dams specifically for this purpose. So you can have sloped substrate without risk of it all rolling flat again.

Here are the promised pics! The quality isnt great but i will try and get some really good ones later. Let me know ehat you think!

Thanks, im not sure if u noticed the clear tubing or not, but i used an old filter intake tube to make a tunnel under the rocks and gravel and my loahes seem too love it.
