refugium and protien skimmer

I'm looking at getting a CPR aquatics HOB refugium and Skimmer combo. My question is will i still need to have HOB Emperor filter as well? It is starting to make a lot of noise and if i can get rid of it that would be great. BTW my tank is a 55gal with fish, coral, and live rocks

You can if you have enough live rock. In a modern 'natural' reef setup the live rock is 80% of your filtration. With that HOB combo and enough rock you should not need a regular HOB filter.

thanks i have about 75 pound live rock

That is not bad, but I would have more. I had about 3 pounds per gallon in my reef and I think that made a huge difference. I would have at least 2 pounds per gallon.
