Use a mirror to reflect the light on the bottom, cheaper then another light

do you mean to put a mirror in the bottom of the refug, under water?
here is my setup now, some rubble at bottom then a WAD of chaeto.
sorry for bad picture, tank lights were on making it super bright.

hopefully this diatom bloom dies off fast, i want fish !!!!

I'd put it on the back of the fuge so it can reflect back into it, the light scatter so it will hit the bottom as well Or just hang it on the wall behind the fuge

FINALLY my RODI unit is here, i now read 0 TDS!
time to do 100% water change, algae is getting out of control.
i have no fish, just my snails.

next i relocated my FX5 to the right, so i rerouted my plumbing.
the filter is for the 40 gal above. I wanted to put my sump where the filter was.

just finished my 10gal sump, this will go under the saltwater tank, as image shows above.
this will replace my AC110. flow from left to right.
overflow from DT to left chamber w/HOB skimmer and chemical filtration, and heater.
8 inch wall, then overflow into refugium in middle, live sand and chaeto and LR frags.
7 inch wall to bubble trap, into return chamber.

a 55gal reef sounds nice !!!!!!

here is a test run of my DIY overflow and sump
i took a dremel and sat for hours carving each line in the strainer, lol, but it was worth it, works well

i ordered float switches to help protect the pump and tank.

ok i scrapped the pvc overflow and bought a
Eshopps PF-300 Overflow Box

it's not that it did not work, it actually worked great, but i wanted something with a smaller profile. i am going to match this with a quiet one 1200 return pump.

didn't take long, now i'm battling hair algae!
tooth brush in hand!
i have no fish yet, so the lights are OFF and will remain off till the battle is won. 20% water changes of RODI water, scrubbing, and turbo snails.

i also just picked up some bumble bee snails for sand, and more turbo's and some emerald crabs.
the cleanup crew has been assembled!!!

emerald crab chewed his weight in algae, and snails went to town.
algae is almost gone. just a few strands here and there.
i had the lights out for 2 days. that seemed to do the trick.
things are looking good now

here is my crab, he starting chewing the minute i put him in the tank

here are the bumble bee snails, they cleaned out the sand, that used to be all diatoms
60421-albums10168-picture42967.jpg

here is my LR, with no ALGAE !!!!!!!!!! (does happy dance)
this was my lush green meadow. can you find the turbo snails !
where's waldo has nothing on these snails!!! Special Ops Snails!

Watch out with the emerald. If ya plan on doing corals they can go "rouge" on ya. Mine did I just got rid of it. To bad I really like the little guy. :)

well i already have 2 freshwater tanks under my belt so now i want to add a salt tank to the mix.

as you can see the salt tank is super bright

i have live sand on the bottom and live rock in the back

i have an AC110 mod i am running, still waiting for cheato, i have chemi-pure, then sponge, then final compartment for live rock frags and chaeto to generate pods

as you can see here, my lighting JUST FIT !!!!!!!!!!
sometimes my measurements actually work !!!!!

as i was filling up tank, everything settled into place, as you can see there is just enough room on top for lights, a HOB skimmer is out of the question, i am going to have to mount it on the outside and run hoses. should be a mod i can handle.

i do not have a skimmer on yet, i have a coralife and am modding to fit my scenario, since i cannot fit it HOB, because of my height restrictions (the tank above). I have 2 circulators on order, should be in soon, i will add one on the left side and one on the right side, pointing at the liverock.

i know it's small, but great things come in small packages, lol

Love the setup! Great job!

i want to do corals, but i'm nervous, too many parameters.
maybe i'll just do anemones and clowns.

will the crab go after the anemones?

ok SUMP has been turned on finally !!!!!!!!!!!!
man was it rough, had issues with the u tube in my eshopps 300.
the return pump was not pushing enough volume to keep the syphon on the overflow box. quick fix and i got everything humming.

i installed the float valve to protect my pump, when the water level goes down to the middle of the canister it turns off the pump. works great
60421-albums10168-picture42994.jpg

here is the power for the float switch
60421-albums10168-picture43002.jpg

i had issues with my eshopps 300 u tube, it was too big,
so i reduced the tube by using a piece of 3/4 ID tubing. which is the same tubing on the return pump. now everything is working perfectly.
60421-albums10168-picture42993.jpg

finally, i can sleep not having to worry about the sump
60421-albums10168-picture43001.jpg

Sweet lookin good. :). My emerald never went after the anemone only my hammer coral and pulsing Xenia. Little bugger

ok got some gutter guard and snailproofed my overflow. no glue, everything is pressure fit.
this way if i have to adjust it, i just take it out.
60421-albums10168-picture43111.jpg

and skimmer was added to the sump. now the filtration is complete.

i'm having some cooling issues, so i'm going to make a fan cooling system.
got tons of extra fans and pc power supplies.
but first i need to make a bracket to hold the fan.
here is a quick peek

Wow! You made that bracket? That is the coolest saw ever!! You could make anything on that! No wonder your tanks look so great!!

it's actually a 3D printer.
i print with ABS Plastic. Stuff lego's are made out of, lol
any bracket i need, i just print out ;)
I do a 3D cad drawing and bring it to life.

clamps work good, now i just have to make a bracket for the fan itself!!!

Very cool. I wouldn't be able to do it, but very cool nonetheless!! Lol
