Scarlet Gem Badis in community tank?

Some people say they should be kept in a species only tank, but would they do well in a very heavily planted 50g with other peaceful fish? Obviously they would need special attention when feeding because they're shy and slow. Would they be comfortable in a community tank?

I feel like they would still be outcompeted for food. Even if you tried to target feed.
