Sexing my flowerhorn

I was told it was a male from another costumer at petsmart because the employee said he had no idea but idk... he is around 2 1/2 inches to 3 inchs not sure

It has 5 spots.. 3 on the body one on his head and one by its tail

But can you tell based on the spot on its tail ?

A clearer picture would help, but tail spots mean nothing when sexing these....the black stripe on the dorsal fin however would point towards female, which I think I can see in the poc

Looks like it could be a male but it's size makes it difficult to be sure.

That Is a flowerhorn but I believe it is a female because mine is 3in and you can see a nucal hump. on most young flowerhorn males you can see a nucal hump if it is 2-3ins long.
 
Simply not true, not all males will have a kok, and some females will develop one. Not a true black-and-white sign.

Long pointed fins are usually a dead giveaway for males. In some cichlid species, females do develop nucal humps and their coloration is just as vivid.

Thanks for your input but I was speaking in experience and opinion.
 
I don't normally go to youtube, but this video is a good example of what artificial selection and weird breeding can do. This fish has a few male signs, like the long flowing fins as well as a kok, yet the video shows it laying eggs
