I'm in the process of setting up my new tank and I was wondering if I should even bother setting up my old 10 gal for a hospital tank.

Well, most of us around here usually advocate keeping a QT tank. It's best to put new fish in the qt tank for a week or so before putting them in the main tank, make sure they are healthy and don't have a disease they'll pass on to your main tank. Since you used the term hospital tank, you certainly seem to know you can also use it to isolate and treat any sick fish you may end up with.

I agree. You don't have to set it up tho. Keep some extra filter media in the new tank, and use it in the filter for the hospital/QT when you need it. Then you don't have to have an empty cycled tank laying around :)
