Sick fish?

Hey everyone I think my Cichlid is sick. The other day he started to look faded. Now he just looks dirty almost. He hasn't completely lost his appetite but he no longer goes to the top to eat food like he usually does. Anyone know what this is and if I have a chance at saving him?

This is the best picture I could get. Normally he's a bright yellow with black and white stripes.

He's transitioning to male colors. All male auratus do this
