Snails in back chambers

I have a biocube 14 for the past 2 months. I was wondering if anyone keeps any snails in the back 3 chambers--especially in the 3rd chamber. I was wondering this just because I notice they get pretty dirty back there and possibly the snails or crabs could help things out by eating the nasty stuff back there.

Any opinions?

Not sure what you mean by back chambers since I'm only into freshwater tanks, but I do have some snails in my HOB filters - they got there by themselves and I just left them. They don't seem to do any harm in HOB filters.
