I've been thinking about picking up some Spirulina flakes for my mbuna. I currently feed them NLS pellets and zuccini. First, I've been told NLS is a perfect food in itself and doesn't need much more variety. So, would Spirulina really be worth it? If so, what's your favorite brand?

O.S.I. makes a 12oz container (thats a lot) for only about $11 online, thats what I use. O.S.I. IMO tends to have the best deals on food.

Spirulina is said to enhance blue pigmentation in fish. I feed my african cichilds mainly NLS (which does have spirulina among its ingredients) but also feed them spirulina flakes as supplement.

The cobalt blue zebra I posted on 09 Feb 2006 in the photo gallery is a sample of one of my mbuna that is on this particular diet.

I give my fish tetra spirulina flakes. I think it's a great addition to a varied diet :)
