I like the bigger cichlids like parrot and frontosa lake tanganyikan thanks to all who can give some advice and help =)
 
The big heavy hitters of south and central America aren't going to fit in a 55. You will most likely have to stick with a fish that gets around 4-8" and even then it will be a single fish or a pair. Simply because of aggression and territory issues at adult size.

Any bigger fish from the African rift lakes are normally open water fish and need a 6' tank, plenty of swimming room and like to be in a school such as fronts.

Would those type of fish work out in a 90g? I saw one on craigs list last night that looked really nice.
 
Some of the bigger South and central American cichlids will work in a 90 but again you are looking at a pair or single fish depending of adult size and aggression. With cichlids bigger tank is always better.
