i just started to get some stringy black algea in my tank. does anyone know what this is and how to get rid of it?

It sounds like cyanobacteria. You should physically remove it from your tank and take steps to prevent its return. It's caused by several things including: overfeeding, poor circulation (dead spots) excessive nitrates or phosphates.
