Aquarium Advice Addict
Hi all. Its with a heavy heart that I write this. After almost 2yrs in the hobby, I have had a tank crash. Saturday morning I noticed that corals looking bad and not coming out like normal. The water was hazy, but there was no Ammonia, Trite, ect..... The day before I had added Tech CB 2 part for calcium as I have done many, many times before. That was the only thing I had done, and nothing else had been added. I check PH and it was 7.8 so I slowly begin adding a very little bit of kalk to bring it up, but it was no good. The PH stabilized at around 8.1, temp fine, no Ammonia, Trite, Low Trate, and all the fish were doing great. Did a water change last night hoping all would be better in the morning...it was worse.
Lost many, if not all coral, looks like I have one cleaner shrimp left out of 5 and I see no crabs or pepp shrimp. Snails are fine. All fish are fine and doing great, eating swimming, ect....
Found out that Fri evening a breaker had flipped and shut my tank down for a while. How long? I do not know, but all looked good Fri night.
I know it could be probably a 1000 things, but I will probably never know. I cant help but think that something took place, killed all the xenia and started a chain reaction before I knew it. The xenia, HUGE spahgetti leather, finger leather and sps turned Stark white in a matter of hours. I just got through pulling a bunch of it out. Cut it off rocks and the xenia covered rocks that had over 200-300 heads on each rock is baking in the sun...
All zoos are closed but a few that you can see trying to come out, and shrooms look decent. Two candy corals look bad, my huge toadstool is slumped over and kinda white. I have it in the prop tank with, the bubble coral that has tiny bubbles out. House reaks of dead xenia!
I have heard of xenia crashing a tank, and I think it did. The water smells just like it..
I listed all the corals and livestock that is gone, and will be talking to my insurance company tomorrow. I had it insured for power outages and things of that nature, but i do not know if they will cover it. It i State Farm so well see...
Sorry for the long post.. Here are some before and after shots from today..
