ok, I have a 72 gallon BF that I want to turn into a planted tank. the problem is is that this thing hovers around 84 degrees. with the heater turned off, when the light goes off at night, it cools back down to room temp, (74). my questions is, is how can i stop my lighting (4x54 watt) 6500k from heating up my tank so high? it is a solid 6 inches above the tank as you can see in this picture, do i need to move it up higher? thank you for all your help.

It's surprising that a t5ho fixture would heat up the tank that much (although a 4 bulb fixture is an awful lot of light), especially with that much of a distance between them. Are you positive the heater isn't the issue? How hot is it in the room itself? Have you tried checking the temp with the heater unplugged and no light on?
