I did an Instagram review on this product and stirred the pot with all the newbies that thinks it works miracles. Just thought I would share what I found on this product and I left my sources below. Yes I am not a huge meds guy but I am a big skeptic of API products.
This thing is, this product DOES NOT "cure" your diseased fish. That's right I said it doesn't cure them. But but but the bottle said it does? It's only partially true. Anyone who knows business knows how companies twist words. Especially API... So if it doesn't cure fish what does it do? Well let's start with what Melafix actually is..
Melafix is "melaleuca extract" or, Tea Tree Oil. Tea tree oil is an antiseptic like hydrogen peroxide, meaning it only cleans the wound, not fix it or cure it. So pretty much you bought a product that doesn't even cure stuff.
The main goal of Melafix is to cure bacterial related diseases(it says). AQ salt and heat treatment will do MORE than this product ever will. Salt inhibits bacterial growth while also building up the fishes immune system at 1% salt concentration it can actually kill bacteria. Heat will speed up the life cycle of bacteria.
Oh I forgot to mention the side effects of Melafix... Since it is an oil it can cause an oily surface on the water and has actually been known to suck the oxygen out of tanks, literally suffocating fish. The oily surface has caused cases where bettas(with their labyrinth organ) have inhaled the oil. And people wonder why I don't like the -Fix's...

The skinny on Melafix/Bettafix - I'm a fish person.
I would use API as a source but we all know they just plaster stuff up to make their products look good. Again I'm not trying to make a full blown war lol this is just the evidence I have found on this product.
