Hello all, so I was thinking about setting up a small 14G tank that I have in my garage on one of my bedside tables, although this location could change.
Basically, it's 500x300x360mm so I think a little bigger than the average nano?
My idea for it, is I would like it heavily planted, or at least the illusion of it being heavily planted, ie; 'grass' over all/most substrate, with tall plants in a U shape hugging the edges of the tank.
I was thinking of (in no particular order);
Java Fern, mainly to try and propagate to my main 45G tank
Dwarf Hairgrass
Cryptocoryne
Amazon Sword
And possibly some Riccia Fluitans
I was going to use EcoComplete for the substrate.
As far as tank inhabitants go, I would like to get some shrimp.
I was thinking maybe a colony of 10 Crystal Red Shrimp and 10 Cherry Shrimp
I would also like a betta as a Centrepiece fish, but as far as I have read, they consider shrimp a delicious snack, which is a shame.
So might instead settle for 8 or so neon tetra's
My questions are as follows, what sort of filtration would this tank need? What sort of lighting should I aim for, for good/vigorous plant growth?
Please keep in mind, I'm trying to keep this as cheap as possible, so any money saving tips will be considered!
Also would like opinions on stock/plant choice, Thanks!
