Water change frequency?

In my 20 gallon i test my nitrates and they were REAL high between 40-80 and so I did a 25% water change earlier today about 5 hours ago and just now I went to go buy another 5 gallons, should I do another 25% or will this be to much new water for one day?

It will not hurt as long as temp,salinity,ph match tank water. Better to do even 50% changes if fish or corals are being effect to bump it down fast.

Did two 25% water changes, an the nitrates are now between 20-40 so I'm going to do another 5 gallons today and see of I can knock them down below 20

i was doing 50% water changes every 3rd day when my nitrates were high, no harm

Okay good to know! Well I did the third water change of 25% and the nitrates are now between 10-20 ppm!
