too much of something isn't good? Well, I bought an AC500 Filter today to work with my Emperor 400 on my 55 Gallon and I was wondering if too much black carbon would be bad? It's in the AC500 and the Emperor right now. I dont see how it could be but with this hobby almost anything is possible.

And to slam that saying down, I know too much filtration IS good!!

Adding purigen tomorrow possibly. I'll let you know how it works in a few days. My water is already looking AWESOME with the new filter and the 2nd water change this week

Normally the only real benifit from carbon would be ours. No smell and piece of mind. As for me, I dont use it at all. Well not completely true. I have a Pur brand faucet filter. I use the filtered water from the tap for my fish tanks.
There is a debate going about how long carbon is effective. The range is a week to a month. If not changed when it is saturated it can leach whatever it caught right back into the tank.
