What is this bump on betta’s gil?

We just noticed this bump pimple like tumor on our female betta’s gil. What is this? Should I be worried? Is there a medication I need to give her? Will it go away on its own? Worse… will she die from it??

This looks like either a bite or a tumor that may have been bitten by one of the other fish. Koi Bettas are prone to tumors which makes either possibility possible. At this point, you want to watch for infection which would look like a bloody or inflamed gill plate or fuzzy ( like cotton) which would be a fungal infection. Keeping the water super clean and the addition of some non iodized salt at a rate of 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons of water will help prevent infections. If this salt amount is not good for other items in your tank, you should do this in a separate aquarium.
