What to incorporate in 55 gallon sump

I just picked up a 55 gallon to use as a sump on my 125 display. I have built saltwater sumps but I'm not sure what to put in this sump and I have a lot of space. Should I build a wet/dry compartment? The only thing I don't like about them is you lose a lot of water volume due needing to run a lower waterline so I would like to avoid those unless recommended
