yellow eye kole tang

guy at my lfs told me that my yellow eye kole tang could live in my 30 gallon tank that it doesnt get any bigger then 5 inches is that true? i looked up there grow to like 8 inches. i mean he only like 2 inches now and plan on upgrading to a 90 gallon with a couple months but if not how long will he be good in my 30 gallon?

Probably not good in a 30g for too long, but if you are going to go larger soon it will be fine. 70+ would be ideal. Not sure they get 8"...maybe 6-7", but Tangs tend to need more swimming space than a lot of other fish.

I would think a small one would be fine. It could end up at a LFS in a smaller tank for a couple months.
