Well I haven't had any problems with Walmart... I read about them 2 weeks ago and it said as they start getting bigger they will eventually need brackish water but when they are small the dont need much/ any

I also have a Cory catfish(about 1/2inch long) petco told me he wouldn't make it bc my cichlids would kill it... Yet, they have never nipped its fins within the 25 hours he's been in there...

Ok, you REALLY need to start researching your fish before you buy them. Cories need groups, you can't have just one. And 25 hrs is not a long time. It has taken my fish about a week to kill off other fish before (this being in my community tank). If you really want to have a thriving tank and be a responsible fish owner, you need to start truly researching your fish and not just adding stuff willy-nilly because it looks cool.

Corey's need groups. They do not like to be alone and dont act right alone. And is definitely a no no with cichlids. Please take him back befor he becomes a snack.

I will get a separate tank for him... And my cichlids don't bother other fish... I've had goldfish and neon tetra with them... They never touched any of them... As long as I give them live grass shrimp they don't mess with any other fish

Here u go krypti... New tank for the Cory... Getting another for the puffer

The main issue at hand, and this gets repeated on nearly every beginner African thread, is that they don't get really aggressive until sexual maturity. Bumblebees are incredibly aggressive as adult. It WILL kill a cory cat eventually, not to mention that cories require soft, acid waters, as well as groups to thrive. Africans like hard, alkaline waters. The green spot puffer WILL get stressed to death or killed, they are very difficult to keep in pure freshwater at ANY age. Tetras WILL eventually become snacks to fish that are naturally algae grazers (minus the bumblebee, which are known to be more omnivorous). Also, feeding ghost shrimp to rift lake cichlids is less than ideal. Just because they can eat something, or will eat something, doesn't mean they should. Just because your child will eat candy, doesn't mean they should eat it, right? The last thing to address is the jewels. While yes, they're African, they are actually WEST African, inhabiting rivers that are soft and acidic, rather than the hard, alkaline Rift Lakes. Although many people add them to Rift Lake tanks, they really don't belong.

The intention is not to attack you, but rather better you as a fish keeper. Research is the most important thing.

With Africans, the aggression is an awfully difficult thing to deal with, especially when mixing lakes, or even groups within each lake, like how Malawi has mbuna, peacocks, and haps. Similarly, you don't want to mix certain tanganyikans, like putting frontosas with shell dwellers. I know even my 1" neolamprologus multifasciatus (shell dweller; smallest known cichlid) are quite aggressive and protect they're fry quite strongly, killing ghost shrimp, and although I don't add fish, they'd kill any if I did try it. And that's just a 1" fish!

Well now I have 2x 55 gallons... So now I can move fish around as needed... I'm going to petsmart shortly to get decorations

Those are some of the best choices you could make! I'd still think about rehoming that bumblebee, as they get quite large. Usually a 75 is the minimum to house them properly. I'm not trying to be a thorn in your side, I just want to make sure you and your family enjoy a tank with less risk of issues down the road.

I'm dealing with an aggressive Honduran red point in my south American tank (HRPs are central American, but it was gifted to me) and trust me, it's not fun dealing with it. Due to some surgeries, I haven't been able to give him back and as a result, he has stressed a couple other fish to death and just killed a kuhli loach. I obviously despise issues like this and if I can help steer someone else clear of issues like this, then I'll try my hardest :)

I will look into rehoming him. It will be hard bc hes my favorite one... He has the most character...
Got new led lights last night... Going buy another bulb next week...

Also I think my new tank is a 60 or 65... It's the same length as my 55 but 2 inches wider and 2 inches taller

New tank mates...

I've never seen my fish so active... Put in 7 new cichlids, rocks, and the led light. Now it's constant swimming. Before it was just hiding in the wisteria and amazon sword.
