A 20 gallon tank, but instead of it being long, it goes up. So it's taller instead of longer.

Thats how my tank is

Angels are not good in a 20. They get large and may get territorial. Plus your tank IS NOT CYCLED ! Zero Ammonia is the goal. PH is not a big deal. You need to test:
Ammonia
Nitrates
Nitrites
Those are the main things that will kill your fish.

If you still have the Betta, the Angels may go after him as they get larger.

What kind of Algae Eater or did you return him ???

Most " Algae Eaters" sold by Petsmart are not a good size. Plecos get too big like a foot or larger, except Bristlenose and Rubberlipped, if they carry them. Chinese Algae Eaters and the Gold CAEs get VERY aggressive and suck slime off other fish.

Otocinclus are a good choice once the tank grows some algae or a dwarf Pleco.
Otos can be kept in a school. Very peaceful.

Don't add algae eaters till you have Algae !

Angels are sensitive. I'd return them and get a hardy smaller fish. IF you don't still have the Betta, if you DO still have the Betta, go with him and don't add fish till your tests show water is safe.

Don't buy fish on looks alone or by inches per gallon.
Find out Adult size and minimum tank size is NOT a great guide as they might live but won't thrive depending on the fish.

The above is IMHO.

I understand that you want an awesome tank, but seems to me you aren't really listening to what the experienced members of this site are trying to tell you. You need the FULL master freshwater test kit, STOP BUYING FISH!!, right now your tank is a septic pool, by adding new fish you are subjecting them to pain, that is not fair! We have all made mistakes in this hobby, but to completely ignore what everyone has told you is not good fish keeping. IMHO you need to find a home for the algae eater and if you are going to keep the betta for a fish in cycle, research what will live happily with him AFTER the tank has cycled.

Agree with the above. Angels and a Betta together too, not sure about that. Reading one site that tells you what you want to hear isn't good research. If you see a fish you want, post here and ask members first. I'd return the angels, they aren't going to be happy in that tank b/c 1) it isn't cycled and 2) your tank is probably too small, not to mention the compatability with the Betta. Also don't listen to the Pet/fish store employees; they'll tell you what you want to hear just to get your money. Ask here first. And please stop buying fish until your cycle is done. Return the angels. And with ammonia at .5 you need to do a 70%+ water change NOW. Letting the tank sit for a couple of days without testing or doing water changes while cycling with fish is dangerous. If you don't want to care for the fish during the cycle, return them please.

Guys and girls everything about buying the test kit and cycling the tank has been told to him several times. At this point just let it go. Sucks for the fish but what more can you do.

I have friend who is the same way I've told her several times about her tank, the response I always get is I've been doing tanks this way for years (which is probably why she hasn't kept fish for any amount of time). We can't even discuss our hobby b/c it causes problems, so I leave it alone. Although she calls for advice every few days (and doesn't take it) and likes to tell me I do too many water changes and stress out my fish *lmbo*

I returned the fish, I bought a test kit, I did my research and I'm doing a fish in cycle I don't know what else you guys want me to do I did everything you said to

Just wait till your tank is cycled

I'm hoping you bought the liquid test kit

I'm sorry if I came off harsh, but these are living creatures, that being said you: returned the original fish only to buy 2 angel fish? That #1 don't belong in that small of a tank and #2 the tank isn't cycled. You bought a test kit? Does it include tests for ammonia, nitrItes, nitrAtes, and pH? On a DAILY basis you should: check all the parameters of your water, until the results are ammo:0 nitrItes:0 nitrAtes: at or below 20 you will be doing water changes DAILY.

I hope you placed the betta in a bowl mean while you cycle your tank.

Since the Betta was already there I'd personally do a Fish In cycle.

This is my 10g Sea Star rimless I'm cycling with plants a Betta and a baby Guppy.

Planting more plants today. Fish are happy. Been up about 2 weeks, cycle should be over soon. Heavy planting helps. Plus will be running a HOB filter from my established 10 on it. It's overfiltered in a good way. Using a Eheim 2232 with Lily Pipes as main filter.

After Ammonia is Zero, I'll start GRADUALLY adding fish. CPDs, Scarlet Badis, Corydoras Habrosus or Hastatus
As well as some Cherry Shrimp.

Done right, I don't expect to lose ANY fish.

Why would you do a fishin cycle with a betta when you can put the betta in a bowl and do a fishless cycle? Fishless is much less work and you'll be cycled in less time

not to get too far of the OT topic but i dont understand why people get so bet out of shape about a fish-in cycle. So instead of telling him to persistantly monitor the parameters and do pwc's as necessary, you want him to put the betta in a completely under-sized bowl while he cycles the main tank? the bowl is gona be uncycled too, therefore just creating twice as much work and getting absolutely nothing accomplished. Mahoney, just monitor the parameters of the water ATLEAST 1 time a day, preferably twice... and do pwc's as needed.
