Most certainly. Got the test kit , substrate, and air pump / hoses today.

Eheim 2080 in the mail

Seriously. Bought a bottle of dr Tim's one and only. We will see if it actually works. Shopping for driftwood tomorrow.

Tank is up and running more or less. Addes 100lbs of Black Diamond blasting sand for substrate. Stuff is amazing and did not cloud the water at all. Tank is now filled as well. No decorations or driftwood just the sand in there for now. Still waiting on my Eheim filter. Put a Aquaclear 110 on there in the meantime. Have not dechlorinated water yet. Wanted to let it un for a day or so just incase there was something unfriendly left in the tank it would have a chance to kill it.

Now.....should I stick with the fishless cycle or go for a fish in cycle? My PH is currently between 7.4 and 7.6 . Is this a good range for a community tank?

I for one say cycling a tank at 4ppm of ammo (fishless) is the way to go. It ensures no fish are harmed and you don't have to do excessive wcs. That's my belief.

UPS just brought my Dr. Tim's one and only. Just waiting for FedEx now with my eheim 2080 before I add it in. Getting closer!

Sounds like you already did go with black sand, but here's my tank with black Eco complete and flat black painted background. I love the look with live plants!

Sounds like you've got (one of) my dream tanks. What are you thinking about for stock? Following to see how this build goes!

ps: I need to clean my glass!!

Yep added black diamond blasting sand. Not sure on stock. Very open at this point. Still focusing on the cycle and making it "superhero" themed for the kids.

That's great! I love the superhero theme idea. You gotta have a big school of neon tetras if your kiddos like Spider-Man (red and blue)!

Here we go. Updated photos. Threw the superhero decorations I have so far in just to have them in there. Certainly won't be leaving them in that location. Bubbles neAr the he gets help move heated water at all? Probably not but seemed like a good place to stick them. Close up of the substrate as well. Plan on hopefully getting driftwood tomorrow.

Set up my Eheim 2080 this morning and have it running now. That filter is a BEAST! Additionally, it is awful to set up. Took a good hour. It is packed full of biological filtration. I also added my bottle of Dr. Tims One and Only at 9am. Will be interesting to see how long it takes to see an increase in Nitrites now.:fish2:

Well its now 6:30pm 9 hours after adding the DR. Tim's One and Only. Still no sign of Nitrites.

The filter was a right for in the cabinet. It amazes me how much the spray bar is moving around the sand in the bottom

Amazing!!!! Can't even hear it with the cabinet closed, and I have it packed out with stuff to grow BB.
