Update: trimmed the bacopa a ton hope I can get it spreading I love that stuff. Trimmed and tied Java Fern babies. I had 2 little red plants in the corner of my tank and I thought surely they died, but since I've started using LeafZone wich has an iron supplement in it they have started coming back, it's just a few leaves but I thought it was a goner!

Starting to see some green algae creep in. The brown is fading away as I balance the tank with ferts.

I've never dealt with green... It's very lightly on some of my sand and some rocks. How do I treat for it?

Caleb,

As far as making the bacopa spread, here's how I've got it going in my tank: when you trim it, leave the bottom portion in the tank as long as it's healthy. This stimulates new growth. You'll get other side shoots forming up and down the plant. You can still plant the tops elsewhere so you can have a nice bacopa forest.

Thanks :) that's what I did was cut the tops off and replant. My dojo loves to dig them up though lol

I have to replant something every couple days or so it seems too.
As the plants are really taking off and maturing it has been slowing down some though. You have a nice thread going that I've been following.
When I start my new one up I'm gonna start one as well. Good luck to you.

Looks good , Caleb. Sometimes I use two toothpicks and put them at an angle to make an "X".
What kind of algae are you seeing? What surfaces is it on? Shape? Texture? How long are the lights on (can't recall)?

It looks like someone just did a light coat of green dust on some of my sand and some rocks. Glad I've caught it early. It wipes off easily with my finger, no residue. Just upped the lights to 8 hours a day from 6 a few days ago.

Is it slimy at all? If not it sounds like green dust algae. Where are your phosphates at? It may not seem so but a 2 hour increase in a consecutive photoperiod is quite a lot at once.

No slime more dusty. I'll turn the lights back down. I don't really have a test for phosphate.

What do you dose again? Sorry if it's been discussed before.

I interchange Leaf Zone and Flourish Excel.

Not going to cut it, if your using over the counter liquid than api leaf zone must be paired with flourish comp to deliver micro and macro's. Excell really needs to be dosed daily to be effective. It wears off after 12 hours I believe.

Okay, and getting this straightened out should help fix the algae?

I'm guessing cutting back light will help in itself. With added light the plants need more nutrition, as your plant load grows you must continue to provide nourishment or else algae will most likely become a larger issue. Balance is key!
