I know there is no exact answer to this, but on average how long does it take for a plant to get rooted and start regular growth? My LFS said that once my Vals were rooted and established in my tank I could get growth of up too 1in per week and that they would start producing runners.

What is the rough average for this? A week? A month? Six months?

It really depends on how balanced your tank nutrient levels are. I've got jungle vals in my 40B under 80W of T12 light with no reflectors. They've been in the tank for a few months now. Jungle vals are supposed to get really tall, but mine aren't more than about 4"-5" long. They put out runners like crazy though. They actually grew runners under an 8" wide piece of driftwood and are working on circling the tank. I know I have nutrient issues because I've got a lot of algae.
