Thats funny me too other then when I was young I got a betta

You know what's weird I have better now and some goldfish what a stroke of luck to meet someone like you lol.

I had a 10 gallon tank with swordtails.
I recall that I came home from school-about age 11-and noticed babies in the tank. I knew I needed to rescue them from their mother who was eating them as fast as they popped out. I ran to the kitchen, grabbed a bowl with tap water in it and caught all the little babies and put them all in the bowl. Of course they were all dead-guess they needed rescuing from ME. That was 42 years ago-learned a little since then.

I had a crayfish, we studied them in 6th grade science class and I was one of the lucky few that got to keep one. I saw someone a couple months ago mentioned yabby (which I had to look up). I thought for sure no one else would have had a crayfish!

Yellow belly catfish & sunfish - went fishing with my dad begged for life LOL they were still alive when we got home from the lake so they got put in the big water trough out in the cow pasture

My first fw fish was a Northern Pike. My dad went fishing and I was really young and thought the fish was too cool to eat, so the 24 inch pike came home and lived in my plastic kiddy pool for a couple weeks. I fed him worms. Then, we released him back into the river.
Years later, I got a goldfish bowl. Later still, I had bettas. And my first fw fish in a proper tank was a group of wag-tail platys.

First fish was a large school of tiger barbs... Unfortunately nobody told us about letting our tank sit, or cycle it etc.
And I was about 7yrs old.
Yeah... Didn't last long.
After that, upside down catfish was my "first" survivor. Had him for 6 years before rehoming.

A Long time ago, my sisters first fish was ONE neon tetra! Lol it died the next day.
