Before you buy fish to breed, you should have a plan to deal with all the fry. Guppies can produce a lot of fry. Some petstores will take them as feeders if they are small, but some petstores deny guppy fry since their are so many of them. Why do you want to breed fish?

Because i love fish and im at the petstore twice a week. I want to be able to do this and see if i am capable so i can move onto more conplicated fish.

Good point to bring up. They definitely exponentially increase. Fishies EVERYWHERE.

Okay well how about the quickest fish to breed. Do any take under a week?

Guppies and platys will breed no matter what if you add water and have both genders. Its not really a matter of skill.
If you are the petstore so such, you should ask them if they would be willing to talk fry/ juveniles from you if you start breeding.
Like I said, you can easily get a lot of fry, so having a plan for them is important if you want to breed anything.

Not really. Under a week for what? It takes most livebearers about 28 for the fry to develop inside them. Egg layers sometimes spawn more frequently, but it takes longer for the fry to develop once they hatch sincethey didn't have the head start given to them like livebearer fry.

I would stick with guppies, they are the best beginner fish if you are wanting to start breeding. Will your pet shop take the fry?

I will try and breed some guppies or platys, but if i do not have a heater do you think it will not happen? Or do i NEED a heater.

You NEED a heater, as these are tropical fish. A heater will also cause your fry to grow faster than in an unheated tank.

Ok thank you i am on my way to petsmart now to look around i will buy a heater and materials for a filter

I have mollies that keep breeding and wont stop. Each time I get more and more of them. I've had only one survive so far the rest have been dinner before I could get to them.
