Grrrr... I can see maybe 10 eggs now. Either he ate them or he buried them deeper in the nest. I'm betting on caviar.

All gone now. Going to clean up his tank today and move him back, then I'll start up with the conditioning again! Might try my red with blue fin edges half-moon female next, or the blue crowntail again.

RATS!!! And I was hoping you'd get it going this time, and I can feel for ya! New dad's and moms seem to forget the game! Here's to next attempt! I am on #4!!

Eggs yet again...Anne laid over 100 and she was moved when done....Thor now gets to try his hand at nest tending and I am see good signs from him. Eggs are well tucked in and of healthy size and he is tending then very well. Hardly leaves the nest area at all....Fingers crossed for some fry this time!!!

Yay! I'm about to clean the spawning tank and acclimate a female in. Maybe my red crowntail, maybe my red hm with green fin edges.

Well, I got 4 babies.

Only one wiggles and Beau can't manage to spit them into the nest good enough to have them stay.

I guess I'm not surprised.

I cannot wait for my sponge filters and microworms to get here in two weeks so I do this properly!

Yay!

Well I had my first casualty from my breeding project (other than the eggs Ninja ate) - my poor plants! Since I had moved the light to the spawning tank and was hoping sunlight would cut it for all the plants in Ninja's tank, and I haven't really been messing with his tank since he isn't in it, all my plants save the cabomba died. I didn't expect all of my anacharis to go roots up, but it did. All living plants have been tossed into the spawning tank and I guess it's time to replant when I move him back. Oops. I need to get another light/hood. Too bad the only one I can get around here is a crappy led hood.

I put the red with blue edges hm female in the spawning tank with Ninja today. Hopefully she will be nice and striped soon so I can release her!

Alyxx, I just got floating Hornwort in my breeder cuz its barebottomed. I wait til the girls stripe up before showing them to the guys. They stripe about once a month.
I am at day 3 of eggs. Thor has them tucked in deep so its hard to see the eggs and if they are hatching...Today or tomorrow I am hoping!

Yeah I just have all the plants floating in the spawning tank now. Ninja's actual tank is looking pretty sad now though. It was a jungle!

My females don't usually stripe up in the sorority, but put them in front of a male and boom- stripes. Well, the ones that will stripe. I've got a Cambodian a white and a very light marble and they are all too light to stripe up. So far the girl in the spawning tank isn't quite striped but I can see her colors changing a bit. It won't be long, methinks. And ninja is doing his little show off dance for her but hasn't started on a nest quite yet.

Finally got the pics from last week's spawn uploaded to photobucket!

I'll have to replace my computer before I can upload the better pics I took with my real camera, though. Got some good shots of them embracing with it!

Swapped the red female for the blue crowntail since Ninja hadn't even built a bubble nest and the female didn't seem too into him either.

Lost this brood too, I am switching up breeder tanks some thing I can have more control over as far as water. Got like a 3 gal for breeding now...the 15 gal will get either the sorority or some other fish TBD.

We have stripes! Now Ninja just needs to get hopping on that nest. He's gotten started but it's nothing to write home about yet. If all goes well I might release her tomorrow.

The nest is growing pretty fast! I keep noticing ninja will flare until he rips his fins a little, but he heals up in a day or so. It's amazing how quickly they can heal if they are good and healthy.

My handful of accidental fry are about 5 days old today!

I've been feeding them boiled egg yolk a couple times a day and its cute to see them lunge and slurp up the minuscule little dots of egg.

I can even see their little eyes moving back and forth looking at stuff. <3

AND: My microworm starter culture is being shipped out tomorrow! So I should get it within a couple days and can give these babies some real food.

Sponge filters should also be here at the end of this week. :)

Things are looking up!

Speaking of the babies, anybody know what their coloring would turn out to be?

Beau (male) & Narwal (female) are the parents.

Beau is shiny blue and green with red ventrals and some red in his tail, and Narwal is shiny copper with red fins.
