my skimmers produce lots of skim-mate
it always is like a dark green color and it stinks terrible
I know this is normal but
this morning I walked in to feed my tanks and noticed a strange sweet but stinky smell coming from the skimmers
after closer investigating I noticed the skim mate had a reddish tint to it
I never seen red skim mate before it has a sweet smell but stinks just as bad
nothing in the tanks have changed other than adding a lot of coral frags
feedings are the same 1/2 cube frozen in am pellets in pm
I also feed 6 live mysiss on Fridays as a treat
I never had this issue with my skimmers before and wanted to know what could cause it to turn red in color
40g breeder
Temp 79*
salinity 1.025
nitrite 0
nitrate 0
ammonia 0
ph 8.2
phos 0.03
calcium 480
I plan on doing 10% wc today like I always do
nothing seems to be acting or looking strange other than the reddish color in the skimmer
what would cause this and is it something to be concerned about
the tank in question has been up and running since about the first of the year
I have a lot invested in this tank and would hate to see it go south
thanks for your help
