ok so here is an update...I let the pH drop to see how low it would go and it went down to 7.95 and stayed there...this is also 24 hours AFTER having (2) koralia magnun 6's put in, one on each end, pointing down on a 45 degree angle so as to stir the water on the bottom and bring it up for a better gas exchange...and of course, as predicted, no change in pH.
so now the tank has a constant movement of 5600GPH with no change at all to the pH, and this is with the top surface being agressively agitated by the returns...so, i've pretty much given up, nothing I try brings the pH up naturally...
so I've resorted to dosing with kalkwasser, this allows me to maintain alkalinity where it's at, 4meq/l, a calcium of 420-450 for coraline algea growth (as I a have a fish only tank) and a steady pH....right now my pH is at 8.05, we'll see if I can get it to 8.2 or 8.3 with the dosing...should be able to given kalk mix has a pH of around 12.5
i"m open to any other thoughts out there on this pH issue....surprised no one else has ever come across something like this.
