    New SFF betta...

That pet shop, they have too many temptations, and today, I was charmed by another blue Siamese fighter fish, and as my tank was looking empty without a fishy, and as the snails were taking over, I thought I'd buy the lil' fella!!! :D He's more sociable than my first one, he flares a lot more...

    My SFF passed away...

I went away last weekend entrusting my SFF to my mother's care, and I came back to find my little blue boy had passed away, and the tank looked awful... :( I think the cause was some of the plants I got didn't like the warm conditions and rotted away, causing an ammonia spike which killed poor...

    UV Lights - the differences...

I was just speaking to someone who has a Pleco, and also has a UV Blacklight (the decorative kind that makes things glow), and he hasn't used it since he moved his Pleco tank into his room as he believes that it would kill the beneficial bacteria in the tank... :-? Now, from my understanding...

    Oranda Eggs!!!

As I mentioned in the Ich thread, Whitey has been popping eggs out, I said I wasn't going to breed them, but just for curiosity's sake, I've put a few into a small tub (usually used for carrying rodents, small amphibians or housing a Betta according to the label (Not recommended, it's too...

    Bettas & Carrotfly?

Just a quickie really, we have a bit of a carrotfly problem here, and the little b*gg*rs are dotted about in the kitchen, mostly round and even in the compost waste bin, so, I just had a thought as to whether or not I could catch them and feed them to my SFF? Or would that not be recommended...

A use for a dead heater...

I found a use for a dead heater, the glass "test tube" types of course... A Flower vase!!! Just clean it out of the grey markings, put a little water in it, pop your favourite flower in it, and then using the suckers, stick it up somewhere smooth (like a mirror, bathroom tiles...

I'm an idiot!! The orandas have Ich!!!

Why am I an idiot? Because I didn't quarantine Choccy, in my haste to get him home I didn't think to use my spare tank (now housing my Betta) as a quarantine, and now Mop and Whitey have Ich!!! :( Now then, treatment. I did have some Ich treatment from when I had the two Blue Orandas a year...

    Small whizzy dot thing...

I just saw this before the lights went off, I can barely describe it, but it was less than a millimetre, it reminded me of a Daphnia, but was white, and it was pretty fast... :-? Any ideas as to what it could be?

    Stupid Mop!!!

What stupid fish we have!!! I just had to "rescue" one of the Orandas (Mop) from under one of the filters where the great lump had gotten himself stuck, all for the sake of an algae wafer!!! What a dingbat he is!!! He's fine now though, I just hope he learned his lesson not to chase...

    Dying heater...

Well, sod's law, my heater's on it's way out, so my poor SFF and Shrimp are in for a cold night... :( I found out when I noticed the tank felt cooler than it should be (getting a new thermometer tomorrow!!!), and I checked the fuse in the plug, that was fine, so I pulled the heater out of the...

    Different coloured lights...

I've been wondering about this, I bought my snail tank a T5 light setup but accidentally got a pink-colour Tropical light, but I have what is supposed to be a T8 Coldwater white light over my SFF & Shrimp tank, and the only thing I see wrong with them is that in my eyes the pink one looks...

    Siamese Fighter and my tank...

Ok, I would like an SFF, cos they're pretty, especially the males ( ), and my tank is empty awaiting a new place to put it, and I would like to have an SFF in it... :) I know that they can live in fairly small tanks (I once saw one in a little bulb type thing, smaller than a goldfish...

    Escapee Weather Loach!!!

Me and my mum were clearing a space for the xmas tree this evening and I found what looked like a dead slug, only itwas one of the Weather loaches from the tank!!! 8O Anyway, I quickly scooped him up and popped him in a tub of tankwater, and about an hour later he's still not recovered.... :(...

    I'm very pleased...

Well, since I got rid of the old plants in my mum's tank and put in some new ones, the algae on the glass seems to be fading leaving just the algae on the driftwood for the little guy to chomp on... :D Also, I put the Fluval 3 in there to seed, then the cheapo filter will be removed, to do what...

    Vinegar soaking...

Last week I bought a 2nd hand Fluval 3+ for my mum's tank (as the "Aquarline Aquarclear 3" is pants), and I currently have it running in a bucket of water and with some white vinegar. But, how long should I run it to clean it's insides out before I make a start on cleaning the deposits off the...

    Bubble filter leakage...

Well, for £3.99 I didn't expect much, but, where the air hose connects to the filter's air-inlet, there seems to be a gap in the moulded joint. So after reading about cyanoacrylate (superglue) I was wondering if it's ok to dab on a little gel glue and pop it in a glass of water to cure it...

    One-eyed oranda...

Unfortunately, my mobile died when I tried to text my mum about bringing home a mini-Dave (Dave's a Ginger British Shorthair, these were just ginger moggie kittens), so there's no pic of it, but, this poor oranda had only got one eye and wasn't too active, it was a big one though at about 3...

    Silly loaches!!!

Every now and then I hear a "clunk" come from the tank, which of course is one of the Weather loaches trying to jump out of the water!!! But pretty much every day, I hear "escaping air", again, it's one of the loaches, farting (well, expelling excess swallowed air through it's rear...

    Just a quick light question...

I was just thinking, what is the difference between a ceiling mounted fluorescent strip lights and what we use in the lids of our tanks? Other than the metal casing of course... Thanks!!! :D

    Making a river tank...

Right, I've just got back from Burnley after visiting a petshop which had a nice collection of tanks & fish (and a Macaw living in the shop saying Hello to everyone!!!), and I spotted something interesting.... It measured 24"x10"x10", and was just a smidge under £17 (about $30), and I...

    Coldwater algae eaters...

Ok, my mum has a bit of an algae problem, I've adjusted the light timer to On-11:30am and Off-9:00pm, so it's down to 9 1/2 hours from 12 1/2, but the poor little Hillie isn't big enough to cope with all that green goo, so I was thinking about removing him and putting him in my tank... I've...

    Whoops, again!!!

Ok, I've not killed anything, well, nothing bigger than 1 millimetre, but that yucky mucky water that I rinsed the filter sponges out in (after mixing up the gravel), well, I left it on the floor by my tanks last night, and forgot it was there whilst re-arranging the cables, I only went and...

    Clown and Redtail loaches...

Do they get on with each other? I only ask cos I'm just looking at an eBay shop which has both for sale, and I like them both, but of course, I haven't got a tank suitable for them, yet... :D

    All change...

Well, as I was saying in my other thread, I've moved the snails into my small tank, to make way for, erm, something else in my slightly bigger tank... I tried my best to clean out the tank of the algae and any other bugs (there were loads of cool little things swimming about in the dirty filter...

    Whoops... :(

Well, after nattering with someone on MSN about my two tanks (the little one which housed my two silver Orandas and the snail tank), I decided to move the snalis and a few of the plants into the smaller tank, and in this process I wastrying to seperate debris from the gravel before cleaning &...
