ok im going to try and build my first sump build. it will be for a 30g reef tank. i plan on using an old 10g tank for the sump. my ?s are-

1. what size skimmer do i need
2. what size return pump
as well as any advice i am open for suggestions . i understand this a bit but could always know more

Skimmer isnt needed on this size but if you do want one shoot for something rated for 75 gallon range which if I remember correctly the 4" reef octupus would be good (if it fits) and the return pump depending on your head pressure loss I'd go with either a mag 5 or 7. (the 7 would be my first choice) also, a ten gallon can be pretty hard to work with due to size so I'd consider using a 20 instead (preferably long).
