looking at it enlarged that is one gorgeous tank! so for the center brace a MH wouldn't be able to penetrate enough to support any coral or just the sps?
would possibly four smaller and less powerful MH work better? i'm just trying to gather info because i know LEDs are expensive, but who knows maybe down the road the price will drop so i could light the whole tank with em!
LEDs are expensive and they are very new to the scene. MHs generate a lot of heat, burns a lot of power and the bulbs have to be replaced every 8-18 months. LEDs will last for years and not shift spectrum. They just lose lumens over time but even then it is minimal compared to MH.
I think because they haven't been used long term yet we don't really know how to compare the number of LEDs needed to replace a Mh bulb. I have my LEDs over a FW tank and it looks to me equal to that of a 250w bulb. My unit has 24 LEDs and burns about 86w of power.
