I started off my day, looking at 5 gallon desk tank, wondering what i should do, i figured i'd rebuild it.

Here are the specs:

Tank And Filter:
5 Gallon tank Kit from Wal mart
Wal mart spec filter rated for 15 gallons

Lighting:
10w screw in into stock hood
(soon to upgrade to 20-25w)

Substrate:
1" of eco-complete
1" of black gravel

Inside the tank deco:
1 Piece of Lava rock (3x boiled and soaked)
One small piece malaysian driftwood

Plants:
Lots ludwigia (3x species, not sure exactly whats what)
2 Species Rotalla
Micro Swords (narrow leaf and broad leaf)
Java Moss
some weird clover looking plant(not exactly sure of the name)
Java Fern attached to my lava rock

Dosing:
1-3mL of Kent Marine Pro-plant every week

Stocking:
1 wild live bearer (also not sure what it is, it looks cool though)
2 Plain guppies (probably will get rid of them)
1 Fancy guppy (personal strain)
1 Indian Dwarf Puffer
2 Epically huge ghost shrimp

i would have attached pics if my camera didnt crap out on me, but heres pics of what it looks like now...

Ya that looks good if your gonna rebuild it are you gonna get rid of the fish?If so I would do a species only tank with Indian dwarf puffers.

well, the one indian dwarf puffer thats left killed his 4 tank mates, so thats why he's alone... i think im gonna do a natural style tank with like, wild looking fish... no bright colors for once...

yea... i think im gonna get rid of him, and do like red cherry shrimp...

The tank looks good.

If you paint the inside of the hood white it will be much more reflective. I was helping a friend do his tank and told him lets paint the inside of the hood white he couldn't believe how much brighter the tank was.

Puffers are very aggressive they do best as a pair or a single fish.

i'm doing a completely different DIY hood in the next couple days. its gonna have foil spray glued to the top of it, and all around the inside of it. it should give me twice as much light, and along with that, im gonna be installing some LED night lights as well...

as far as the puffer goes, he's got a really calm temperament, and he's pretty cool... but i think im gonna be turning the tank into a red cherry shrimp tank...
