I've been doing fish tanks for about 6 months now, and I'm still not familiar with the acronyms. Example: FOWLR (Is this fish only with live rock?). What others do people commonly use? Thanks

I have heard of a thread on the AA lingo, but not sure what the link is. I know DW is drift wood and WC is water change CUC is clean up crew. Lol can't think of them now, but hopefully someone posts the link.

There's an app for that called aquarium abbreviations, pretty straight forward and goes alphabetically

In addition:

LPS: also means local pet store
FTS: full tank shot; in regards to taking photos
RCS: red cherry shrimp
CRS: crystal red shrimp
CPD: celestial pearl danios
MTS: Malaysian trumpet snails OR multiple tank syndrome (depends on context)
PFS: Pool filter sand

And there's a whole lot of plant acronyms that I'm still unsure about, generally acronyms of their scientific names i think.

In reference to bettas:
VT- veiltail
HM- halfmoon
DT- doubletail
DeT- delta tail
PK- plakat
CT- crowntail
Also, many of these can be combined when multiple traits are present(I.e. DTHMPK, doubletailed halfmoon plakat) an F after an abbreviation indicates a female (such as CTF for a female crowntail)

Some other fish abbreviations:

EL- Endler's Livebearer
DG- dwarf gourami
HG- honey gourami
ZD- zebra danio
MMP- mickey mouse platy
BBM- balloon belly molly
HFM or SFM- hi-fin molly/sailfin molly

Tank and equipment abbreviations:

HM- halfmoon tank
BF- bow-front tank
CT- cylinder tank
An L or T after a tank size indicates that the dimensions are either longer or taller than the standard for a tank that size.
HOB- hang-on-back filter
UGF- undegravel filter
CF- canister filter
NPT- natural planted tank, meaning all live plants in a soil substrate, natural decorations etc, basically as close to a live ecosystem as possible.
LPT- live planted tank, a tank with real plants but also artifical elements such as dyed substrate and resin decoration.

Non-fish:

RCS- red cherry shrimp
GS- ghost shrimp
BS- bamboo shrimp
AS/MS- apple/mystery snail
RHS- ramshorn snail
PS- pond snail
MTS- malaysian trumpet snail
ADF- african dwarf frog
ACF- african clawed frog
RES- red eared slider
MMB- marimo moss ball

Those are all the ones I can think of right this second.....
