I have a 20 gallon long tank with 20 neons in it, and would like to add a single fish to it, and don't know which one to get.
I know a betta is an option. Are there any other species I can check?

I'm not a big fan of single "centerpiece fish." Most all fish are happier in groups. I would suggest green or black neons or some other species of small tetra. That would make an attractive tank.

FWIW....
In the past I had a Beta in about a 30 gal community tank with no issues at all.
It seems that they are peaceful if added about last as they seem to be somewhat territorial.

I would get another one but, I presently just have a 10 gal tank and there is no room left for it.
